Come write and/or draw in community at the Eco Flamingo Market Cafe two Mondays a month from 7:00 - 8:30pm.
This is a FREE event, but participants should RSVP since we have limited capacity. Writers and Artists are welcome to come as early as 6:30pm. The event will officially start at 7pm and at 7:15 doors will lock and writing and drawing will commence. You can follow the prompt of the day or work on whatever strikes your fancy. Beverages and some menu items will be available for purchase. The group will be led by Mia McCullough, an award-winning playwright and a multi-media artist. Mia has taught playwriting and screenwriting at Northwestern University, UIC, at Chicago Dramatists, and in Chicago Public Schools.
WORKSHOP: VISIBLE MENDING BASICS
Give new life to your holey clothes and keep them out of the landfill!
Learn the basics of hand sewing with visible mending techniques for repairing your clothes. This workshop will cover:
Different stitches for repairing clothes with decorative stitches
Practical stitches for broken seams
The best tools and materials for repairing woven garments
How to identify woven fabrics
Each student will create a mending sampler to practice the repair techniques. This is an introductory class for all skill levels. Mending kit included in the ticket price

WORKSHOP: GROW YOUR OWN MICRO-GREENS
Discover the joy of growing your own fresh, nutrient-packed Microgreens in our hands-on Microgreens Growing Workshop! Designed for city dwellers with limited space and time, this workshop is perfect for beginners and seasoned gardeners alike—no green thumb required.
During this interactive session, you’ll learn:
• The benefits of growing your own food.
• Different types of Microgreens, including which are the easiest and hardest to grow.
• Simple, space-saving methods to grow Microgreens in urban environments.
• Creative ways to incorporate Microgreens into your meals.

Each participant will plant their own tray of Microgreens during the workshop and leave with a complete DIY Microgreens Grow Kit or Pet Grass Grow Kit to continue growing at home. WORKSHOP: PETALS AND FRAMES
In this hands-on class, participants will create their own Floralscapes using hand-pressed flowers, grown locally, using sustainable farming practices. We'll use a 5x7 floating frame. You will take home a beautiful hanging botanical art piece you can display in your home or give as a gift to a loved one. All materials are included. You are welcome to bring a photo of your choice to personalize your floating frame.
This workshop lasts approximately 90 minutes. No experience necessary. Grab your mom, a friend, celebrate a birthday or join the group. The event is BYOB and get 10% off Fresh-Market items within our cafe!
WORKSHOP: WOOL FELTED GHOST
Learn the basics of needle felting by creating your own wool ghost. Wool is an incredible fiber and simply adding a few drops of essential oil to your diffusers provides an eco-friendly way to Freshen any space from a bathroom to an office, car, or laundry hamper.
You will make two different kinds of diffusers using various needle felting techniques: an adorable ghost with pumpkin and a 2-ball hanger. Your instructor, Jessica, will be there to provide guidance and technical assistance for every step including the secret to getting the perfect shape on your designs. You will also be able to choose from an array of different essential oil scents to add to your creations.
All tools and materials will be provided including finger guards. You will learn to create a sculpture (the ghost) and to decorate balls. A 2 ball hanger is included in the class price, and additional balls can be purchased for $2 each. Recommended for ages 10+.

Come learn the basics of making your own kimchi with our friends at Ekaloka Fermentory. You’ll learn:
- how fermentation makes food magic
- the history of kimchi
- how kimchi gets so tasty
